Professor Stephen W. Duffy

Stephen Duffy trained in mathematics and statistics at The University of Edinburgh and Imperial College, London. He has been working in cancer epidemiology, prevention and screening since 1979. He has worked in the UK, France, Sweden and Singapore. He served as trial statistician on several influential breast cancer screening trials, including the Swedish Two-County Trial, the Gothenburg Trial and the UK Breast Screening Frequency Trial.

Current research includes the FH01 study of mammographic screening in young women with a family history of breast cancer, the UKLS feasibility study of a lung cancer screening trial in the UK, and a number of studies of breast density. Stephen has been Professor of Cancer Screening at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry since 2002. He also has honorary professorships at University College London and Kings College London. He is an honorary fellow of the Society for Breast Imaging and an honorary member of the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group.
