Judging criteria
There is tremendous competition for BUPA Foundation medical research grants and, before deciding which proposals to support, the governors take into account:
- the originality of the research proposal
- quality of the study design/methods
- the long-term implications of the research proposal and the likelihood of success
- the proposed statistical analysis (where appropriate)
- relevance to clinical practice
- relevance to public health
- priority for funding
At the closing date for proposals, details of applications received are sent to the BUPA Foundation governors for scoring on a scale of zero (poor) to ten (excellent). Following that, the shortlisted applications are sent for external peer review. Finally, the BUPA Foundation board decides which projects to support.
